Please follow the steps below to reset your Heat Pump system. Once you have performed these steps and if your Heat Pump system is still not operating properly then feel free to contact us to book a service call.

To reset the heat pump unit follow these steps:

1) Turn the thermostat off

2) Open/ Remove the outer panel/cover of the Heat Pump

3) There will be a toggle switch, usually white (similar to a light switch) on the right or left side

4) If you don’t find the toggle switch, then go to the main breaker panel, identify the switch that is marked as Heat Pump, and then turn that switch off. Wait for 5 minutes before turning switch back on

5) Close the outer panel/cover of the Heat Pump

6) Set the thermostat to cooling in summer OR heating in winter, wait for 15 minutes to run the system

7) You should feel cold/warm air coming from the vent

8) Now put the thermostat on heating/cooling and wait until heat/cooling is coming from the vent

9) If there is no hot air or cold air coming from the vent after following the last 8 steps please call us to schedule a service call.

Why Should You Reset Your Heat Pump?

Newer models of Heat Pumps come with Electronic Circuit Boards, which means that they have more safety control features. This makes the Heat Pump responsive to even the smallest change in normal running parameters. For example, a dirty filter (recommended to change quarterly by manufacturer), a weak blower fan motor, and any changes in water loop temperature or pressure (for that specific size) can trip the system. Therefore, any deficiency mentioned before can trigger the Control Board to shut the system to protect the compressor.
